Prescribing for Our Patients

The prescribing of medication carries a significant responsibility for the doctor, we therefore hope that you would respect that it is for the doctor to decide whether a medication is to be prescribed. This will always be done in consultation with the patient.

Repeat Prescription: The Practice provides a Repeat Prescription Service, this service enables those patients who have regular medications to obtain their repeat prescriptions from the Surgery or if preferred from either one of our three local pharmacies; Lloyds, Williams and Jarman & Dixon; Please tick the box on the repeat request. These pharmacies are open from 9 am -7 pm weekdays and offer a Rota for out of hours prescriptions.

Repeat prescriptions may be requested by post or in person. You can now also request repeat medication via the web by using the link for EMIS Access on the appointments page after you have registered at reception to use this facility.

Currently we are also piloting a 'home delivery' repeat prescription service otherwise known as ETP.

For those who had previously registered with the practice for internet prescribing this facility has now been withdrawn. Please call at the surgery for registration with EMIS Access.

If you are on regular medication and require a prescription, please make your written request using the Practice tear off prescription request slip. Failure to do so may result in a delay processing your request.

You can send your request by post but please enclose a stamped addressed envelope. We regret that we cannot accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions, as this could lead to potentially dangerous errors.

Please allow a minimum of 48 hours for your prescription to be prepared.   Repeat medications are reviewed at regular intervals, this helps us review your continuing need for the medication as well as enabling us to monitor the effects of medication by checking blood tests, blood Pressure etc.

The Practice endeavours to provide a comprehensive service to our patients. To ensure that this continues there are certain areas that need your help.

Private prescriptions: Occasionally patients see a consultant privately and are issued with a private prescription. The Practice is not obliged to convert this to an NHS prescription and indeed this would be regarded as improper within the ethos of the NHS. However we will do this as long as we have had a letter form the consultant detailing the medication, the reasons for that medication and if we feel it is appropriate. We would ask you to respect this policy. The policy can be viewed here.

There are certain types of medication that cannot be prescribed on the NHS, e.g. Malaria prophylaxis, medication for travelling (Imodium, antibiotics..) and the so called lifestyle drugs. The Practice may feel it appropriate to issue a private prescription for these medications however there will be a administrative charge.

Telephone requests for repeat prescriptions: We will only accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions from housebound patients, we regret that we are unable to offer this service to other patients.
