Out of Hours

Out of hours means anytime that surgery personnel are not accessible either at the surgery premises or by telephone (opening hours). But don't worry in the case of an emergency when the surgery is closed you can still access medical care. EMdoc runs our out-of- hours medical cover. EMdoc was a cooperative, an organisation formed by local GPs to provide out of hours services to patients registered with Bromley GPs.  In October 2004 the PCT became responsible for all out of hours work and with the  cooperation of local GP took over the running of EMdoc.

How to contact EMdoc: If you do need to speak to a doctor outside of surgery working hours then if you telephone the Surgery number you will be given the number for EMdoc (020 8676 3263). On telephoning EMdoc a receptionist will take the details of your problem and pass it onto the doctor based at The Princess Royal University Hospital. A doctor will then telephone you and either offer you advice over the telephone or offer you the opportunity to attend a base unit at the Hospital. There is a facility by which a doctor can visit a patient at home should they need it, this is strictly for those who are too ill to travel, the elderly and housebound.

Once again, we do stress that EMdoc should only be used for emergency medical problems that simply cannot wait until the Surgery is open in which case the patient can then speak to their normal doctor.

For EMdoc to be able to work as an efficient service requires all patients to respect this.
