Referrals for Further Care
|
We believe it is good clinical practice to see and assess patients personally before referring them for further care be this privately or for NHS treatment. We do not accept responsibility for self-referrals. NHS referrals: The Doctor or in some instances the Nurse will make arrangements for NHS referrals. This is usually achieved by writing a letter and sending it to the appropriate department within the NHS. You will receive a reply from the NHS provider (hospital etc) once they are able to offer you an appointment. Private referrals: For private referrals you will usually be asked to contact the hospital yourself and make an appropriate appointment with the agreed consultant, physiotherapist etc. A referral letter will usually be prepared and either forwarded to you at home or made available for collection from the surgery reception. Patients who chose private care often ask us to complete a form for their private medical insurance company. We are only able to do this if we have been involved in the referral process. There is an administrative charge associated with this task. We have clear guidance on converting private prescriptions into NHS prescriptions (Practice policies). We regret that we are unable to complete these forms if we have not been involved in the referral process. The Practice does not provide "BUPA " style medical examinations. These may be arranged privately, directly, with one of the local private hospitals i.e. The Sloane, Chelsfield Park etc. |
